The EthoLiberal Society is dedicated to the promotion of ethical understanding, liberal thought, and civic engagement.

 

How do you affect positive change in the world?  

 

Postive change requires effectiveness—doing the right thing, and efficiency—doing a thing well. Effectiveness is important because the better you do the wrong thing, the more wrong you become.    

 

How do you define the right thing?  That requires ethical understanding. While we all have an innate knowledge of ethics, individuals' understanding of ethics varies greatly. A society dedicated to affecting positive change in the world has to start with education. It needs to facilitate ethical understanding and personal growth.  

 

Positive change requires inspiration. Positive change assumes a baseline of something in need of repair . . . some condition negative enough to require action to remedy the situation. Agents of change can get focused on negative realities. The size and scope of systematic problems can seem overwhelming. It is therefore helpful to provide context to today's problems and provide inspiration through knowledge of the new tools and ideas being created every day to help move things in a positive direction.  

 

"Inspiration without action is incitement" - Russell Ackoff. It is not enough to educate people and inspire them. You need to provide them with the tools to connect, with the means to engage and be active in their communities.

 

The EthoLiberal Society's goal is to facilitate positive change in the world.
